Take Italo Calvino’s “If On a Winter’s Night A Traveler” – literary masterpiece that has been widely produced in paperback form and re-design it as a coffee-table art book.
Due to the surprising nature of the book, as well as thematic elements that place “You” the reader in numerous fictional libraries throughout the story, my colleague Andrea Trabucco Campos and I collaborated with renowned photographer Candida Höfer on this special edition production of the classic novel. Also featured is side commentary from notable scholars and critics around the world.
A monumental dual-format book hidden within book designed with the purpose of giving a visual interpretaion to Calvino’s text. Typographical decisions were inspired by Bodoni plates as an hommage to the old world classical style while the inner books showcased a modern typeface to highlight the literary switch from 1st person to 3rd person – frequently used by Calvino.
